Overview:
Upper Mustang Trekking is another mysterious route to remotest region of Nepal. Trekkers willing to taste the remote experience of Nepalese Himalayan region along with mysterious facts of ancient civilization can choose this trekking plan.
Mustang is a Tran-Himalayan region with geography like Tibetan highlands and peoples like Tibetan tribe. So, it is a chance of getting exposure with Tibetan culture, lifestyle and more amazingly with thousands of years old monasteries and caves. Together the scenic view of Nilgiri, Annapurna and Mustang view would mark an awesome experience. Mustang is almost like no vegetation area but the place is rich in art and architectures including monasteries and four storey King’s palace.

Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu
Welcome in this Himalayan paradise. Upon arrival in Kathmandu airport, our representative will meet and transfer you to a chosen hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Full day Kathmandu sightseeing tour
After breakfast we’ll be going to explore some of Hindu and Buddhist monuments of the city. An expert city guide will escort us to Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swyambhunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhnath stupa. These UNESCO heritages do reflect the artistic skills of medieval Nepal. Enjoy cultural tour and stay overnight in hotel.
Day 03: Drive/fly to Pokhara (827m)
Today wither we’ll drive or fly to Pokhara, choose is yours. Pokhara is 200 km west of Kathmandu on 6 hours driving distance or 30 minutes flight. Arriving Pokhara, shift to hotel and visit around the city on rest of day. Phewa Lake and Lakeside city is good destinations to roam around.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2810m)
In morning we’ll attempt a short flight to Jomsom. The flight offers full of mountain sceneries including some of highest mountains in the world. Jomsom is the administrative headquarter of Mustang district and now, our trekking beginning point. Following the river bed of Kali Gandaki River, we’ll ascend towards Kagbeni. Kagbeni lies at the confluence of two small rivers Kag Khola and Mustang Khola. Overnight in Kagbeni. (20 minutes flight/ 3-4 hours trek)
Day 05: Kagbeni to Chele (3100m)
After breakfast, we’ll continue by Kaligandaki Riverbed and gradual ascending and descending windy trail. Charming sceneries of barley, wheat, apple and buckwheat fields, rustic villages and geographical structures always inspire us. Pass by villages of Tangbe, Chhusang and eventually reach to Chele (3100m) for overnight stay. (5-6 hours trek)
Day 06: Chele to Geling (3570m)
Climb to Chele La pass (3630m) and descend down to large sided valley to Samar village. Samar offers some distant view of Annapurna and Nilgiri mountains. After, we’ll climb to Bhena La (3830m), Yamdo La (4010m) and trek down to Syangmochen. Further a short distance hike leads us to Geling for night stay. (7 hours trek)
Day 07: Geling to Charang (3560m)
After breakfast, we’ll turn west of Geling and walk through fields, Tama village and climb up to Nyi La (4020m) to the north. The trail then drops down to large Ghemi village and again goes upward to Choya La (3875m). Enjoying superb views and making gentle descends, the trail eventually leads us to Charang village of overnight stay. (6-7 hours trek)
Day 08: Charang to Lo Manthang (3840m)
In first steps we’ll descend down about 125m to Charang Chu and climbs steeply to beautiful Tholung valley. Ahead we will pass by large chorten, some Mani walls and reach to Lola (4000m). From Lola, we can see amazing walled city of Lo Mangthang (3840m). It will be so inspiring walk ahead while heading to the highlight of trip Lo Mangthang. Overnight at Lo Mangthang. (4-5 hours trek)
Day 09: Explore Lo Mathang
Today we will remain in this mystical city. After breakfast, we start tour to every possible corners of city, where each and every activity looks unique and amazing to us. We’ll visit three storeys Jampa Lhakhang, red Thubchen gompa, Chodey gompa, Choprang gompa and the four major temples within city. Do some friendly chatting with locals, listen chanting of monks and celebrate the lifetime moments with them. Overnight Lo Mangthang.
Day 10: Trip around Lo Manthang
This is one more day we stay in Lo Mangthang area. It will help us to realize more about how local live happily even on extreme remoteness. After having breakfast, we will visit imposing four storey building Palace at center of city. Then by a horse (hire on your own) visit to some other villages nearby and observe the local culture, lifestyle, tradition and appreciative hospitality. Stay overnight in Lo Mangthang.
Day 11: Lo Manthang to Drakmar (3820m)
By today we start descending back. In first steps, the trail climbs up to Chogo La (4325m): the highest point of our trip, and descends down to cross Charang River. Ahead we’ll pass by Ghar gompa, some other monasteries, small valleys and alpine meadows. Dropping steep down along eroded path finally takes us to our destination Drakmar. Overnight stay in Drakmar. (6-7 hours trek)
Day 12: Drakmar to Shyangmochen (3475m)
Today we’ll trek back to Shyangmochen by descending down by stone walls and fields. Retracing the path, we will drop down to lower of Ghemi, then to Jaite, Chhung-Kah, Tama Gaon and eventually to Shyangmochen for overnight stay. On the way enjoy beautiful glimpse of snow covered peaks. (4-5 hours trek)
Day 13: Shyangmochen to Chhuksang (3050m)
About 6 hours downhill trek today will takes us to Chhuksang village. On doing so, we’ll pass by Yamdo, Bhena La, Samar, Chele and finally to Chhuksang. Along unique landscapes and fresh environment, it is going to be so pleasing walk.
Day 14: Trek back to Kagbeni (2810m)
Retrace the walk down to Kagbeni. Firstly we’ll arrive at the village of Tangbe and continues down to the destination. Though we have already made this part of trek, it won’t be boring as each fine day offers more scintillating views shining Himalayas. Overnight in a local guest house. (4 hours trek)
Day 15: Trek back to Jomsom (2700m)
Trek 3-4 hours down to Jomsom (2700m). Revising and assembling all good memories, we’ll take a whole day rest on reaching Jomsom. Stay overnight in a local teahouse.
Day 16: Fly back to Pokhara
By morning, fly back to Pokhara. The flight is one more chance to review the Himalayan beauties. Upon arriving Pokhara you’ll have whole day free. Visiting around Devi’s falls, Gupteswor cave, International Mountain Museum, Barahi temple at the center of Phewa Lake is recommended. Overnight Pokhara hotel.
Day 17: Drive. Fly back back to Kathmandu
After breakfast we’ll return to Kathmandu. Today also you do have option i.e. either you can fly back or drive on tourist bus/private car. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel and take rest. Enjoy the last night stay in Nepal.
Day 18: Fly to your onward Destination
